Gatso Red-light cameras
Red Light cameras use induction loops set in the road to determine when a vehicle has crossed the stop line when a red traffic signal is displayed. When the traffic signals have changed to red and a vehicle moves over the loop, the sequence is initiated. If the vehicle continues to cross the second loop (past the stop line) the camera will take a photograph, followed by a second photograph 1 second later. The photographs will record the amount of elapsed time since the red light was illuminated, lane number, the date, the time and the speed of the vehicle.
A police enforcement official will review the photographic evidence to confirm the vehicle crossed the stop line and entered the junction.
