REDFUSION Average Speed Cameras
RedFusion is a speed enforcement system which measures the time taken for vehicles to travel a measured distance or zone, and automatically determines which of those vehicles has exceeded the stated speed limit.
The speed cameras that recorded this alleged offence do not flash nor is there a video. They operate on a system whereby the vehicle registration number is read as the vehicle enters and leaves the speed-managed zone. They measure an average speed over a measured distance, and not of a single moment in time when a momentary lapse in concentration can result in activating a speed camera. Because this is an average speed, which is rounded down to the nearest whole number, it would indicate that at some point the speed attained would have been above the 50 mph limit- in excess of the recommended ACPO threshold.
